argues that Hansen should not be on a hearing panel)
Susan Hansen, hansens@uwplatt.edu,
608.342.1436, decided to continue with an appeal hearing before the
kangaroo panel even though Dr. Burton, the appellant, was too sick to be at the
hearing. She allowed the kangaroo panel
to be fed lies that had nothing to do with the statement of charges. She allowed the hearing to extend far outside
the scope of the charges against Dr. Burton without giving Dr. Burton an
opportunity to cross-examine or confront adverse witnesses.
Dr. Hansen was chosen to be on the kangaroo panel in
violation of policy. Dr. Hansen became
the chair of the kangaroo panel in an unknown and undisclosed process. She was likely selected as chair of the panel
indirectly by Chancellor Shields.
How far will Susan Hansen go to get Dr. Burton fired on
bogus and false charges? We should not
have to find out. She should be
immediately disqualified from sitting on any panel that is to decide whether
Dr. Burton, champion of student rights, is to be dismissed.
Why is Dr. Hansen co-chair of the Appeals Commission? Why and how was she selected as chair of the
kangaroo panel? It seems she
“volunteered” and that was the only explanation why she was made chair of the
panel. There was no explanation given,
that I am aware of, that tells who decided Hansen would be chair of the
panel. I volunteer. Why am I not now, chair of the panel? Something is fishy.
There are more arguments supporting my assertion that Hansen
should not be a member, let alone chair, of the kangaroo panel on a private
page here (Private). We plan to present these arguments at a later date.
Faculty
Handbook 2016: 6.3.12.3 Section 7
says: “Procedure for Evidentiary
Hearing and Deliberative Meeting - The
chairperson of the appeal panel convenes the hearing and serves as presiding
officer. The chairperson assumes all the normal responsibilities of a committee
chairperson and rules on such questions as may arise on the procedure of the
hearing, admissibility of evidence, and all other matters related to the
hearing.”
This seems to indicate to me that Dr. Hansen is individually
responsible for any and all violations of policy
committed by the hearing panel.
